10 Travel Hacks to Save Time and Money

    Jun 1, 2021 · 16 Comments

Everybody wants to have the best vacation. These travel hacks will improve your travel experience and save you a bit of time and money.

No need for more introduction, let's jump right into the hacks!

plane wing and clouds and ground and sky and sunset

    Flexible Plans

This may not really be a hack, but having flexible plans will save you a lot of money.

Let's say you want to travel this certain Sunday and the flight tickets for that day are $500. Odds are, there is probably a Saturday or Monday that has cheaper flights.

    Soft Suitcases over Hard Suitcases

When checking in a bag, you should get a soft suitcase. It is debated that hard suitcases provide more protection, but they are heavier, and with the weight limit, you cannot fit as many items per bag.

Also, you can stretch soft suitcases slightly, allowing you to fit more items in your checked bags.

Although, as an additional tip, I would recommend not checking in bags if it is not free. It is usually very pricy and unnecessary.

road and grass and bushes and trees and fence and power lines and power pole and cloudy sky

    When Able, Roadtrip!

It is always a good idea to go on a roadtrip rather than to fly. It is cheaper, you don't need to pay for a rental car, and you can enjoy any location along the way.

Going on a roadtrip is a very different experience and is something that is well worth it.

    Plan Well in Advance

It is not a good idea to book a trip the week before a trip. I usually recommend completing all your plans 6-8 weeks before traveling as a general rule of thumb.

You can book later than that, but you will get the best deals when you book ahead so you have time to let the price drop.

    Take a Lot of Photos

This won't save you time or money, but this is a something that is often overlooked. There are so many times that I have gone to my phone and looked through a trip album and wish I would have taken more photos.

Take a lot of photos, and the ones you don't like, delete them. Photos are memories of your travels and you want to keep them safe.

Invest in a Good Battery Pack

If you are traveling, you will be out all day. Invest in a battery pack that is at least 10,000mAh. You will be very thankful that you had it, and will be a lifesaver.

laptop and mat and iphone and table and chair and barstool and another table and window and wall and crown moulding and bowl

    Always Have Your Laptop

The next few travel hacks have to do with gear (would you call this a gear hack?). Having your laptop is very useful if you have to make last minute plans or have to do research at the hotel room.

Having your laptop is also useful to clear up storage on your phone. That means you can take more photos! Don't forget your laptop at home!

External Hard Drive is Your Friend!

Running out of storage on your camera, phone, AND laptop? Carry an external hard drive!

For 2TB, it is around $50 on a decent sale, and it is definitely worth it! Also they're portable enough to put in your pocket!

AirPods and case and laptop with trackpad, keyboard, and screen

    Wireless Earbuds are Extremely Handy

Wireless earbuds are super handy when you are out. I use Apple AirPods, but anything is good for when you are out.

The perks of having wireless earbuds is that you have no cords, so you can go anywhere with them on! Another perk is that you can enjoy music while you are on the road, on a flight, or anywhere else where there is a lot of waiting.

    Buy Some Travel Pillows

We decided to buy some travel pillows before a 23 hour trip consisting of multiple flights. They are a lifesaver! They are so comfortable when flying or even if you are a passenger while on the road!

I would definitely recommend buying one to help relieve your neck and prevent any strain.

laptop and phone and headphones and plant and tiles

    Conclusion

If you made it to the end, congratulations! Give yourself a pat on the back!

I hope you took away anything useful from this, and thank you for reading! If you use any of these travel hacks, leave a comment down below!

Thank you again for reading and happy travels!

This is brilliant 👏🏻, the idea of taking soft luggage is actually genius. I always struggle with the weight limit!
